Wally's Friends heard about a little horse whom
we have privately named Hope.
She had been tied to a tree for a very long time without shelter! Her back was covered
with Rain Rot
and was 150 pounds underweight.
She was found standing in urine so potent it was black!
A local animal rescue volunteer, Deb Corson talked to the owner of this little horse who was literally starving
and truly suffering. She offered $150 for Hope and the owner accepted.
Wally's Friends, our employees and volunteers have donated $175 to cover her initial rescue!
She's had
numerous baths to help restore
her coat. Deb's vet tested her for a
Coggins Disease and she is negative. YEAH!
Deb also brought a farrier out to trim her hooves.
She is a tiny girl, the size of a pony, about 10 years old and VERY gentle; so excited to be comfortable and eating good food!!
Just a month ago she was starving, and now thanks to Deb Corson's action, she is in
good hands. She is now in a huge
warm straw filled stall and
receives warm mash, pellets. Deb
takes her out to graze on fresh
grass! What a delight this
is for her.
Hope is
currently being boarded at no
charge by
Heritage Farms
(please
like them on Facebook) until she gets back to health.
Special thanks to Heritage Farms
Manager Liz Johnson! There Hope
has made several equine friends,
and when they're out in
pasture together she is the
"Boss". She's
getting lots of love, attention
& treats there & all her
caregivers have learned that she
loves peppermints.
She's a
beautiful little Chestnut with a
blaze and we think she is a
Hackney mix!!
She's likes to meet people and gets along very well with Deb's German Shepherds
when she's out grazing.
We live in a state that has no protection for horses.
Horses are now being abandoned and horse slaughter is alive and well.
Their situation is as bad or perhaps worse than that of cats and dogs!
Although horse slaughter is currently not legal in the US, horses are being sold at auctions where kill buyers scoop them up,
send them to Mexico and Canada to unbelievable conditions.
The most horrendous methods are used to kill these magnificent animals for food consumption.
This little mare is only one example of many in TN in need of your compassion and help.
Hope is the future. Only Hope, and hard work.
Wally's Friends is endeavoring to begin a program for horses and little Hope has called out to all of us as a
strong beginning to speak up for horses.
Please contact HSUS
to find out about programs and legislative action in place to find the facts for our friends.
